About me (Marilyn Cox):
What is a virtual assistant?
I graduated from the 4-year commercial course at Earl Haig Secondary School in Toronto, Canada. This gave me a strong foundation for office work. Since then I have continued my education in various subjects including Microsoft Office, Business Communication at Seneca College, "train-the-trainer" certificate, took various subjects at Humber College towards a desktop publishing certificate, took subjects from VirtualU including learning HTML (thus created this webpage myself). I am currently enrolled in the "ProAdvisor" program for Quickbooks. My company "ForWord Processing", started in 1991 as a word processing and training company until I discovered the world of "virtual assistants".
"A Virtual Assistant (VA) is an independent entrepreneur providing administrative, creative and/or technical services. Utilizing advanced technological modes of communication and data delivery, a professional VA assists clients in his/her area of expertise from his/her own office on a contractual basis." (quoted from http://www.ivaa.org)
What are the benefits of working with a virtual assistant?
- It's pay as you go so you don't pay for downtime.
- There's no need to supply office space or office equipment as a virtual assistant would have her own.
- You would have more time to focus on billable hours rather than unbillable hours, therefore bring in more money for yourself.
What I specialize in as a virtual assistant is:
- Word processing
- Powerpoint presentations
- Basic bookkeeping
Examples of clients I have had:
- market research companies
- real estate agents
